EPR Banner
Internal communications · Visual hierarchy · Staff engagement
Organization: Unity Health Toronto
My role: Lead designer (concept, layout design)
Audience: Staff, physicians, the public and partners
Project Overview
Designed a visual timeline to communicate the EPR (Electronic Patient Record) initiative’s progression and key milestones. The timeline served as an internal communications tool to help staff understand the EPR’s stages and benefits at a glance.
Challenge
Unity Health needed a clear, engaging way to present the EPR initiative’s timeline — a complex topic involving regulatory milestones and internal planning. The goal was to transform dense information into a visual tool that could be used in presentations, screensavers, and printed materials to educate staff and stakeholders.
My Role & Responsibilities
Visual design & layout: Translated detailed content into a clear visual timeline.
Information hierarchy: Organized dates and key milestones in a way that made sense visually and logically.
Multi‑format outputs: Created both a poster version and a series of screensaver graphics tailored for digital internal distribution.
Brand alignment: Ensured the design aligned with Unity Health Toronto’s visual identity while enhancing readability and engagement.
Design Process
Content review: Gathered all EPR background documentation and met with the internal communications team to clarify key milestones and priority information.
Sketch & drafts: Developed rough concepts for how to organize the timeline visually — including options for layouts, color coding, and icons.
Iteration with feedback: Shared initial designs with stakeholders and refined based on feedback to improve clarity and emphasis on key moments.
Final output: Delivered polished, ready‑to‑distribute assets for both poster print and digital screensaver use.
Outcome & Impact
The timeline was adopted as a communications tool for internal presentations and staff orientation materials.
Provided a visual reference that helped teams quickly understand the initiative’s schedule and status.
Enhanced internal communication around organizational alignment.
Reflection
This project sharpened my ability to turn dense content into clear, engaging visuals — a key skill in senior graphic design where clarity of information is as important as aesthetic quality. I learned how strategic layout and hierarchy can make complicated subjects instantly understandable, and how to design for multiple distribution formats within one project.
